ThermoProfilScanner

The welding monitoring system ThermoProfilScanner (TPS)  is based on a special infrared measuring head which we developed for welding applications. With the usage of this system a non-destructive testing of the seam is performed. The testing method is called passive thermography.

The TPS measuring head is placed a few millimetres behind the welding point and captures the infrared radiation of the solidified but still glowing seam. Therefore, the measuring head has a special construction without glasses, lenses or mirrors. Thereby the sensor is protected against the conditions next to the welding point (heat, steam, smoke, splatters, …) and needs very low maintenance.
The application of the system is possible, as long as the sensor can look at the glowing seam. The welding process (soldering is also possible) does not matter. MAG, MIG, TIG, Laser and ER-welding (HFI) is possible.
The most of our systems are sold to endless tube mills, especially ERW (HFI) tube mills since our system is able to detect so called “cold welds” – every other NDT method is not able to detect these critical defects.

Furthermore, it should be noted that the passive thermography offers a lot of advantages compared to other NDT methods – our system captures the heat radiation and shows these on a live screen. Thereby the welding process gets visualized. This gives the operators a better understanding for the welding process, reduces setup time due to the direct feedback and helps to detect process deviancies / disturbances better and faster.

The recorded NDT-datasets are saved for every weld seam, respectively each tube or pipe. If desired, additional data from the welding line - can be measured, monitored and saved too.

ThermoProfilScanner

With the ThermoProfilScanner, welding irregularities can be detected from the temperature field of the solidifying, still glowing weld. Since the characteristics of the temperature field and the weld quality are directly related, weld irregularities such as penetration, misalignment, holes, etc.) can be reliably detected. The ThermoProfilScanner is a component of the WeldQAS monitoring system.

The ThermoProfilScanner is an optical heat line measurement device that captures the temperature on a line up to 400 times per second. The patented design is fundamentally different from heat line cameras, is glassless and suitable for continuous use near the welding processes. The measurement is made through a slot (18*1 mm), which is automatically closed in the absence of shielding gas. These conditions make it possible to perform applied thermography of the cooling weld.
