Tube bender / mandrel bender

The tool

(1) Clamping piece:
Clamping pieces are supplied with smooth or corrugated surface according to requirements.

(2) Counterbearing:
A counterbearing is required to support the bending process. For thick-walled tubes, counter rollers are used. Thin-walled tubes are bent with slide rails.

(3) Bending mandrels:
Bending mandrels support the outside of the tube during bending. The bending mandrels are responsible for the ovality of the bend and prevent wrinkling only to a limited extent.

(4) Bending tool:
The bending tool defines the bending radius with which the tube is bent. E.g. for a 42 mm tube R=42 x 2 = 84 mm.

(5) Rigid mandrel:
Rigid bending mandrels are used for thick-walled pipes and large bending radii.

(6) Ball mandrel / link mandrel:
Ball mandrels still have one or more movable balls at the end of the rigid mandrel. As a result, the mandrel supports the tube even deeper in the bend. Ball mandrels are used to bend thin-walled tubes with small bending radii. The smaller the bending radius and the thinner the tube, the more balls are used. When using ball mandrels, seamless tubes or tubes with a smoothed weld seam are required.

(7) Wrinkle smoother:
If wrinkling occurs during mandrel bending, the use of a wrinkle smoother is necessary. Wrinkle smoothers do not "smooth the wrinkles" but prevent the formation of wrinkles. Often, the use of a wrinkle smoother can be dispensed with when annealed tubes are bent.

(7) wrinkle:
If, wrinkles accure while bending with a mandrel, the use of a wiper die is necessary. Wiper die´s do not smooth out wrinkle, but prevent the formation of wrinkles. You can often dispense with the use of a wiper die when annealed tubes are bent.
