FlexTrack is an innovative, flexible and modular tensioner system, developed and patented by P.K. Jeppesen A/S, Denmark.

This system offers you the advantage of flexibility to create the required pulling force by assembling modular tensioning units. The units can be positioned in a linear configuration or in a curve. You can create the required tension by plug and play, combining several units. Each unit has a maximum pulling power of 2 tons

The user-friendly and innovative design makes flexible positioning along the product-route possible, reducing the need for working space and creating a compact and clear working environment for the operators

The compact size makes fast shipment and installation on location uncomplicated. flexTrack can be used for a variety of applications and products, both on- and off-shore. New! You can also rent FlexTracks - visit us at hal 11/J33 and get an offer

Cable Termite

This ‘termite’ activity should make CV cable producers smile (article wire 2020)

One of the more innovative products at wire Dusseldorf was showcased at the Troester booth: the Cable Termite (patent pending), made by Denmark’s P.K. Jeppesen A/S, which provides a novel approach to a vexing challenge for companies that run CV lines.

Inventor Anders Moestrup Rasmussen, the principal of P.K. Jeppesen A/S, has been working more than 20 years in the cable industry, has always been missing a solution how to re-use the start and stop lengths from the CV lines. Today, many different cable-stripping tools exist but, in order to ensure supreme functionality, the material to be stripped has to be more or less homogenous. In the start and stop of the CV line, the extruded material is not even close to being homogenous – bubbles, holes, etc. He has now found the solution to this problem.

Instead of stripping, the idea is to use six milling heads (3x2 heads, turned 120 degrees) rotating around the cable core and each head having a special tool optimized for clearing away the XLPE material. This way, we do not have to worry about homogenousity.  The milling heads are indifferent to the quality of the material. The milling heads simply remove the material by milling off everything that pass the heads. It makes it easy to remove the polymer from the conductor and, at the same time, generate easy removable shavings. Shavings can be transported away to containers, big bags or directly compacted for disposal.

The Cable Termite will run in line in the CV line and will be placed directly before the last and already installed caterpillar. The process runs at normal line speed, and the start and stop conductor length can be used again and again. The benefits include allowing for a fast start-up of the CV line, start-up and stopping length optimization, high material costs savings and increased CV line efficiency.

It is of course also possible to use the Termite to repair and remove cable sheeting’s and that also include cables with welded aluminum sheet where it is impossible to find a proper and stabile solution in the market today.

The payback time for a Cable Termite obviously depends on the machine set-up, types of cables, raw material prices, etc.  Taking advantage of my experience from the cable industry, I believe a typical payback time would be around two years, subject to the factors mentioned earlier.  It certainly pays off to be an owner of a Cable Termite.

He said that he was at wire Dusseldorf “to test the waters,” to see what kind of interest there was. The results, he said were mixed, but he remains optimistic. “Some people just say they don’t need it, but others, those who understand exactly what it does, they’re very interested.”

The best way to appreciate what the Cable Termite does is to see a test run in action. To see that, go to: http://www.pkj.dk/cabletermite.htm
