The Institut für Integrierte Produktion Hannover (IPH) gGmbH focuses on research in the field of production technology and provides consultancy services to industrial companies and education to young academics in engineering sciences. The IPH was founded as a spin-off of Leibniz Universität Hannover in 1988. To this day, three professors of the university manage the IPH as a non-profit limited company.
Research in production technology
The IPH conducts application-oriented research in the field of engineering sciences. About 30 research assistants work in interdisciplinary teams on research projects dealing with the core issues process technology, production automation and logistics. Moreover, the IPH also researches on XXL products – for example wind energy plants, ships or conveying technology for the mining industry – and on issues around Industry 4.0.
Objective of the IPH is to recognize new trends at an early stage, advance innovative ideas and help implementing them in industry.
Interface between science and industry
The IPH considers itself as a mediator between theory and practice. In order to promote scientific knowledge transfer to industry, the IPH cooperates closely with companies, in research projects as well as in consulting projects. Clients of the IPH are companies from mould and tool making industry, mechanical and plant engineering, aerospace as well as from automotive, electrical and forging industry.
The IPH provides its customers with comprehensive consulting in the field of production technology and develops individual, tailored and often unconventional solutions. The aim is to sustainably improve the flow of production and planning processes, thereby increasing the economic efficiency. The IPH shares current scientific knowledge with external specialists and managers on numerous events – for example in seminars and working groups.
Practice-oriented degree and PhD programmes
The IPH also assumes responsibility for the qualification of prospective young engineers. The institute offers lectures and practical projects for students and gives them the opportunity to collaborate in research projects: Student assistants take over responsible, subject-related jobs and play a key role in the success of the IPH.
Graduates have the possibility to do a PhD – benefiting from the unique mixture of theory and practice. As doctoral candidates at the IPH, they are not only involved in research projects, but also work in close cooperation with partners from industry. The results are application- and practice-oriented doctoral theses – qualifying graduates for challenging managerial positions in industry and science.
