It makes valve terminals compatible with fieldbus at costs that are no higher than those for multi-pin solutions. As a result, the bus node module for valve terminals is inexpensively unlocking the world of fieldbus protocols such as CANopen, Profibus and DeviceNet.
Existing solutions for installations with multi-pin plug connection or individual wiring can be replaced in a cost-neutral fashion - and thus enable customer applications to be adapted quickly and easily to new requirements. A positive side effect is that changing from multi-pin connection to fieldbus significantly reduces installation and engineering costs. Thanks to its diagnostics functions, the bus node module reduces downtime and machine failure, for example by identifying overvoltage and short circuits.
This communications interface for the valve terminals VTUB and VTUG is based on Festo's I-Port, which functions as a universal M12 connector. The I-Port can be flexibly equipped with the new bus modules type CTEU or configured at IO-Link. High level IP65/IP67 protection also enables use under harsh ambient conditions.
