Steel Technologies to construct new steel processing facility in Mexico

Steel Technologies, a joint venture between Mitsui & Co. (U.S.A.) and Nucor, is engaged in the processing of flat-rolled steel for use in consumer goods, hardware, office furniture, construction, agriculture, lawn and garden, appliance and automotive industries.

The new 300,000 sq. ft plant will expand the company’s North American operations, thus bringing the total locations to 25 including three joint ventures. The plant will have processing capacity of more than 800,000 t of flat-rolled steel. The operation is expected to commence by 2012 end and it provides logistical and supply chain benefits to Steel Technologies’ customers.

President and CEO of the company, Michael J. Carroll, noted that they are committed to bringing more value to their growing Mexican customer base. The new world-class facility will enhance the company’s strong association of steel processing operations in Mexico. The Mexican plant will deliver several value-added processing capacities, including multi-blanking, light and heavy gauge slitting and pickling. An eco-friendly pickling line will be installed at the plant and the line produces a high quality, clean and consistent surface. Steel Technologies is the first in the Mexican market to employ Eco Pickled Surface (EPS) line.
