SMS group and JSW Steel sign MOU for carbon reduction projects

In pursuing a shared ambition to reduce carbon emissions from iron and steel production, JSW Steel, the flagship company of the $22 billion JSW Group, has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with SMS group to explore multiple cutting-edge solutions and R&D projects to reduce carbon emissions in its iron and steel making operations in India.

Primetals Technologies to convert and modernize hot-dip galvanizing lines for voestalpine

Recently, Austrian steel producer voestalpine placed an order with Primetals Technologies for adapting and expanding the existing electrical, drive, and automation systems as part of the rebuild of hot-dip galvanizing line No. 4 at voestalpines’ steel plant in Linz, Austria.

ArcelorMittal creates lime-production company with SigmaRoc

ArcelorMittal and quarried materials group SigmaRoc have entered into a strategic joint venture agreement to create a new company. The company will produce lime, an essential purifying additive used in steel production as well as numerous other industrial applications. Both partners will leverage their materials and manufacturing expertise to produce 900.000 tons a year of a high-quality material.

SSAB and Alfa Laval produce heat exchanger using fossil-free steel

SSAB and Alfa Laval have signed an agreement to collaborate on the development and commercialization of the world’s first heat exchanger to be made using fossil-free steel. The goal is to have the first unit made with hydrogen-reduced steel ready in 2023.

Tenova received two contracts from TenarisDalmine

Tenova was awarded two contracts by Tenaris, global manufacturer and supplier of steel pipes and related services, for its mill in Dalmine (Italy). Both contracts are related to the steelmaker’s new investment in special steel production. The two companies belong to the Techint Group.

Swiss Steel Group achieves solid profitability in Q1 2022

Swiss Steel Group has reported revenue of EUR 1,028.8 million for the first quarter 2022 compared with EUR 751.6 million in the prior year quarter. This equates to an increase of 37 %. Sales volume decreased by – 6 % to 480 kilotons, from 510 kilotons in Q1 2021.
