Voestalpine Group, renowned for its high-tech special tubes and sections, has announced the expansion of its production capacities at its Jeffersonville, Indiana site. This development comes on the heels of securing new long-term contracts with two major global truck manufacturers, reinforcing its commitment to the North American market. The expansion involves a €70 million (approximately USD 78 million) investment which is set to create 110 new jobs and increase the production space by 15,000 square meters.
The company plans to double its production capacity to 80,000 tons to meet the demand for high-quality structural components for Class 6, 7, and 8 trucks. The new production facility is scheduled to begin operations in 2026. Herbert Eibensteiner, CEO of voestalpine AG, emphasized that the expansion is a strategic move to transplant their long-standing European expertise in rollforming special tubes and sections for commercial vehicles to the North American market.
“Follow the customer” as a strategic principle
Carola Richter, a member of the Management Board of voestalpine AG and Head of the Metal Forming Division, highlighted the strategic nature of the investment. "With this investment, we are expanding our global manufacturing network and can produce in the highest quality near our customers. We are thus successfully continuing our follow-the-customer principle on strategically important markets.", said Richter. She pointed out that this approach aligns with voestalpine’s strategy of following its customers into key markets to better meet their needs.
The announcement also follows the recent opening of a new production hall in Shelbyville, Kentucky, which specializes in manufacturing customized tube and section components. This expansion is part of a broader strategy to enhance voestalpine’s capabilities and presence across vital industries such as automotive, renewable energy, construction, and mechanical engineering.
