The copper specialist cunova GmbH is preparing for the market of the future with the TÜV certificate for the Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) of its permanent mold tubes. Customers are already occasionally requesting the provision of product carbon footprint calculations. It can be assumed that the requirements of business partners will continue to develop in the future and that demand will increase accordingly.
“We not only offer a strong sales argument, but we are also preparing for the market of the future ahead of time,” says Tom Beyer, Head of Sales Mold Tubes.
Study on TÜV awarding
The comprehensive study, which forms the basis for awarding the TÜV certificate, was carried out in accordance with the international standard ISO 14067:2018. The study is a core element of the master's thesis "Life cycle assessment of copper products using the example of permanent mold tubes", which working student Alina Rahe successfully submitted to the Westphalian Wilhelms University of Münster in August 2023.
“It evaluates the greenhouse gas emissions of our permanent mold tubes over their entire life cycle – from production to recycling – and confirms the effectiveness of our innovative recycling principle,” says Dr. Alexander Beel, who accompanied the certification process as an employee of the product development and digitalization department.
The process also created the basis for determining the PCF for other cunova product groups. There are also opportunities for sales.
“We are proud to see that this certificate confirms that our products not only meet the highest quality standards, but also make a positive contribution to the global sustainability concept,” emphasizes Tom Beyer.
Climate-friendly steelworks
In addition to the cunova Return-Your-Mold concept for recycling molds, PCF certification is another important step towards a climate-friendly steelworks and thus a milestone in the company's ongoing mission to offer the industry environmentally friendly and sustainable product solutions. It underlines cunova's commitment to sustainability and its efforts to minimize the environmental impact of its products.
