Thyssengas to supply Currenta chemical parks with H2
Thyssengas GmbH and Currenta GmbH & Co. OHG have signed a joint letter of intent for the hydrogen supply of three chemical parks. From 2030, the Leverkusen, Dormagen and Krefeld-Uerdingen sites are to be connected to the future Thyssengas hydrogen network via three network interconnection points.
The existing natural gas pipelines are to be converted to hydrogen to supply the sites in Dormagen and Leverkusen. The Krefeld site will be connected to a newly built hydrogen pipeline between Duisburg and Krefeld once this has been confirmed.
The three Currenta chemical parks are to receive the hydrogen they need from 2030. Thyssengas intends to transport this to the three chemical parks via the planned border crossing points of Zevenaar and Vlieghuis in the Netherlands and the planned north-south corridor with the pipeline network operator Gasunie between Wilhelmshaven and Cologne.
According to Thyssengas, it has initially defined six potential regions, so-called H2 clusters, in close consultation with the companies in its network area. These are spread across the Emsland, Münsterland, Ruhr and Rhineland regions. The clusters would be home to numerous energy and emissions-intensive companies that want to decarbonise their energy supply with the help of hydrogen in the future. The development towards a hydrogen infrastructure is to be further incentivised by the H2 clusters.
