The Steag Iqony Group has successfully completed the acquisition of Uniper Wärme GmbH. As the company announced on 3 November, all regulatory approvals and contractual requirements have been met approximately three months after the signing of the purchase agreement.
In future, the company will operate under the name Iqony Wärme and will become a subsidiary of Iqony Fernwärme GmbH. The merger strengthens Steag Iqony Group's position as one of the leading providers in the German district heating market and further advances the expansion of climate-friendly heat supply in the Ruhr area.
„We are a joint venture with a shared mission: we are shaping the future of energy and ensuring security of supply and climate neutrality,“, explains Dr Andreas Reichel, CEO and Labour Director of the Steag Iqony Group. „That's why the takeover is more than just ‚1 + 1 = 2‘. The new constellation opens up completely new opportunities: for example, we can interlink the adjacent district heating networks and develop them in an integrated manner. This will make the heat supply in Germany's largest metropolitan region even more secure and climate-friendly. This is another milestone for our district heating turbo", says Reichel.
Consolidation and strengthening of the heating division
With the integration of the former Uniper Wärme, the Steag Iqony Group is consolidating its district heating activities under one roof. In addition to Iqony Wärme, this includes the companies Iqony Fernwärme and Iqony Energies. The aim is to leverage synergies and further increase efficiency in heat production and distribution.
„We are committed to partnership-based cooperation and are delighted to have the support of so many experienced colleagues“, explains Matthias Ohl, spokesperson for the management of Iqony Fernwärme and Iqony Energies. „Together, we supply hundreds of thousands of households via a network spanning more than 2,200 kilometres – and around half of the heat supplied already comes from climate-neutral sources. This shows that the transition to sustainable heat supply has long been a reality.“
With the successful completion of the transaction, the Steag Iqony Group is consistently continuing its growth path in the field of sustainable energy and positioning itself as a driver of the heat transition in Germany.
