The federal government's agreement on the 2024 federal budget and the climate and transformation fund was published in Berlin on December 13, 2023. Kerstin Maria Rippel, General Manager of the Steel Association, explains this:
“It is good news that the federal government wants to stay on track with the decarbonization of industry and the development of the hydrogen economy. The acute uncertainty among companies has thus been alleviated. But the process must not stop here! For real planning security, reliable framework conditions are needed in the medium and long term. A transformation commission should therefore be convened as soon as possible to develop a constitutionally secured solution framework for private and public investment needs.
In addition, a political solution to the electricity price issue remains more necessary than ever: With the abolition of the subsidy to stabilize transmission network fees, it is not only the steel industry that is facing a significant increase in the already dramatically high electricity costs. The federal government must continue to face this task with high pressure!”
