Norwegian company Hystar AS and German industrial firm Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering GmbH have entered into a partnership to develop a high-capacity hydrogen production facility in Europe. The project aims to significantly increase electrolyser manufacturing capabilities.
New Electrolyser Production Line Planned Near Oslo
On September 5th, Hystar AS announced that Thyssenkrupp Automation Engineering has been contracted to perform the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for the Høvik production line. The planned facility near Oslo is designed to have a production capacity of 4.5 GW.
Compact Design for High-Capacity Production
The new factory will occupy an area of 2,500 m², which is notably compact for a gigawatt-scale electrolyser facility. Despite its size, the plant will incorporate stack assembly, quality control, and testing processes. This design could potentially influence future approaches to electrolyser manufacturing.
Supply Chain Strategy for Production Scaling
To facilitate rapid production scaling, Hystar plans to source stack components from strategic suppliers within an established supply chain. Fredrik Mowill, CEO of Hystar, states that this approach is crucial for providing competitive solutions for large-scale green hydrogen projects.
