Peinerträger GmbH (PTG) has launched a specialized department to increase the use of steel in construction and at the same time act as a decarbonization partner for everyone involved in the construction project process.
Transformation of the construction industry
“The transformation to a sustainable construction industry is inevitable. 38% of global CO2 emissions come from the construction sector. We not only want to change the industry, but also make a positive contribution to climate protection. “To do this, we have to take responsibility and find solutions that make sense both ecologically and economically,” explains Dr. Jan Schmidt, Chairman and Managing Director of PTG.
PTG has set up a specialized department called Technical Customer Advice that is exclusively dedicated to the topic of sustainability in construction. The experts in the newly created team provide advice to architects, specialist planners, builders and engineers and support them in defining and implementing decarbonization strategies as well as in preparing, planning and implementing construction projects.
Sustainable building material steel
“Based on many years of expertise, we provide support in the objective comparison of building structures made from different material concepts. We want to promote sustainable construction and raise awareness of steel as one of the most sustainable building materials. Steel is infinite and 100% recyclable. Another advantage is the low-emission production of steel compared to other building materials. At Peinerträger GmbH, circularity is already a practice – we use 100% steel scrap for our products and thereby ensure that natural resources are conserved,” says Marcus Lippe, Head of Technical Customer Advice.
“Everyone is talking about the construction transition and the willingness to build sustainably is increasing. However, we are increasingly hearing voices from the construction industry that concrete procedures for building and certifying sustainable buildings are missing. We would like to close this gap with our know-how,” says Ms. Anna Frühling, consulting engineer at PTG and responsible for sustainability in the technical customer service team. She is aware of the social and political discussion on the transformation of the construction industry, but still sees a lot of need for clarification regarding the practical implementation.
