In the newly opened training center in Dillinger, up to 100 trainees can be taught at the same time in the areas of metal processing, maintenance and machining on an area of around 1,300 m². This is complemented by several training and project rooms, including dedicated areas for additive manufacturing and technical drawing. The training workshop is state-of-the-art in terms of software. The highlights include twelve 3D printers for “rapid prototyping”, CAD/CAM training positions and a state-of-the-art 3D coordinate measuring system.
“With the new workshop we are setting an example for Saarland steel. We invest in the future of our company. We also need well-qualified employees for the mega-project Transformation. The new premises offer our young talent the optimal learning conditions,” explains Joerg Disteldorf, Managing Director of SHS – Stahl-Holding-Saar and Head of Human Resources Dillinger.
Inter-company training
The trainees receive practical knowledge in the modern training workshop by being introduced to the “real” production of steel products using a machine park. The company has invested around 7 million euros in the new workshop building, thereby demonstrating a commitment to its employees and the Dillingen location.
As a rule, Saarstahl and Dillinger take on their own trainees after they have successfully completed their training, not least because they were trained according to needs. Many companies in the region send their employees to Dillinger for comprehensive inter-company training or for specific training modules in the metal and electrical professions. Currently, around 70 external trainees are being trained at Dillinger and Saarstahl either permanently or in individual modules and courses. With the new training center, Dillinger wants to reach even more young people in the future. The new training center is open to inter-company training of employees from external companies in the region.
“Stahl has a future and offers many young people in Saarland promising career prospects. The new training center is not only an investment in the future of the company, but also an investment in the future of our country. Thanks to the in-depth training at Dillinger, employees can actively shape the industry’s transformation process towards climate-neutral steel production,” says Jürgen Barke, Saarland Minister for Economic Affairs, Innovation, Digital and Energy.
Together with Saarstahl, Dillinger is the largest training company in Saarland and has kept the number of trainees currently in initial vocational training consistently high with over 500 young people for years. The modern training center is an essential part of Dillinger's successful training concept, which represents the strong future orientation and transformation of the Saarland steel industry.
