Midrex Technologies has published the World Direct Reduction Statistics Report for 2022. Accordingly, global production of direct reduced iron (DRI) was 127.36 million tonnes (Mt) last year, almost 6.9% higher than the previous record of 119.2 Mt from 2021. Overall, the global DRI production has increased by almost 55 million tonnes or around 75% in the last six years.
In 2022, MIDREX® plants produced 73.55 million tons of DRI, which is 3.8% more than the previous year's 70.85 million tons. The share of MIDREX technology in global DRI production from shaft furnaces remained ~80% in 2022. By the end of 2022, MIDREX facilities have produced a total of approximately 1,320 Mt of all forms of DRI (CDRI, HDRI and HBI).
