VDMA Publishes First Atlas on Data-Space-Based Projects in Germany and Europe
The VDMA has released a "Living Paper" titled "Actors in the Industrial Data Economy", providing the first comprehensive overview of data-space-based projects across various industrial sectors. This 60-page document focuses primarily on projects within German-speaking regions but also includes notable European initiatives.
The publication aims to bring transparency to a new and complex research and market environment. It offers companies and researchers opportunities to network, learn from each other, and facilitate technical and content-based coordination.
Hartmut Rauen, Deputy Managing Director of VDMA, emphasized: "Our goal is to bring together different players to establish unified and compatible approaches. By doing so, we create standards and lay the foundation for the data economy. As VDMA, we identified the potential of the data economy early on and have actively participated in numerous X-projects, positioning our industry as a pioneer."
The atlas is the result of extensive research, does not claim to be exhaustive, and will be updated at least annually to keep pace with the rapid growth of the data economy and emerging X-projects.
X-Projects for Various Industries
Manufacturing-X serves as an umbrella term for data-space-based projects in the manufacturing sector. The document provides an overview of activities in industries such as mechanical and plant engineering, energy, aerospace, and mobility. It outlines which actors are involved in specific projects, along with contact details, and allows targeted searches by region, sector, or keywords like "machine tools."
The Value of Data
In the data economy, data is considered the "new gold" for companies. While data exists in abundance in most businesses, it only unfolds its true value when traded or exchanged effectively. Industrial data spaces provide a secure environment where data can be exchanged autonomously and efficiently. Importantly, data providers retain full control over their data and decide how it is used.
