XCarb® from ArcelorMittal is a steel produced with a high proportion of steel scrap and 100% renewable electricity. It is already available for a variety of steel products today. The new generation of free-cutting steel has equivalent mechanical properties to the standard lead-containing grade and offers significant advantages in terms of CO2 emissions because less energy is required for processing.

Whether it's steel products for the energy transition, the construction industry or the automotive sector: our CO2-reduced products are on the market and we are seeing steadily growing interest from customers," explains Tapas Rajderkar, Chief Marketing Officer at ArcelorMittal Europe - Long Products.
The group has set itself the goal of becoming CO2 neutral worldwide by 2050 and saving -35% CO2 in Europe by 2030.
Expanded XCarb® product range
The XCarb® family is also growing and “XCarb® recycled and renewably manufactured” tire wire will soon be available from ArcelorMittal at its Gijon (Spain) factory based on an EAF production route. The pre-homologation process begins this year.
Since 2005, ArcelorMittal steels have been successfully used in the manufacture of more than 10,000 onshore and offshore wind turbine towers. ArcelorMittal produces an extensive portfolio of steels that are used in the most important components of a wind farm: foundations, tower, nacelle, generator, gearbox, pitch, anchoring cables and power cables. Rods and poles also play an important role here. Rebars (concrete reinforcing bars) are used for onshore and offshore concrete foundations.
The WireSolutions division produces various solutions for the wind industry, such as: B. Anchoring ropes: sheathed spiral ropes, sleeves and offshore transport reels. Plus, heavy-duty conveyor ropes for the most demanding environments and “XCarb® recycled and renewably manufactured” low-carbon galvanized steel wire for cable reinforcement.
One of the most recent innovations is the introduction of a new generation of free-cutting steel called 3eCut®, which has the same mechanical properties as the lead-containing standard grade 11SMnPb30. This advance offers significant benefits in terms of CO2 emissions as less energy is required for processing. In addition, 3eCut® brings economic benefits because the steel extends the life of the cutting tools, resulting in significant cost savings, and reduces lifetime energy consumption by 30%. The improved machinability leads to more productivity, higher cutting speeds ensure more controlled and smaller chip formation.
Investments in Dortmund
Beyond these developments, ArcelorMittal's commitment to quality control is illustrated by ArcelorMittal Dortmund's recent investment in a new ultrasonic testing line specifically designed to improve bright steel inspection capabilities. This strategic step is suitable for delivering defect-free products that are precisely tailored to the requirements of the automotive industry.
The WireSolutions division also continues to develop new corrosion-resistant solutions under the Crapal® brand name for various applications that can be manufactured from ArcelorMittal's "XCarb® recycled and renewable manufactured" low-carbon steel.

For the first time, ArcelorMittal presents steel pipes with low carbon emissions. This new solution made from recycled and renewably manufactured XCarb® steel has up to 75% lower CO2 emissions - one of the highest CO2 reductions in the steel pipe industry.
ArcelorMittal offers joint development with customers in the design process for all automotive tube applications. The factories offer cold-finished and cold-drawn welded precision tubing and custom finished parts. The tubes are available in a variety of profiles with many finishing options including cutting and heat treating. The wide range of products ranges from seamless pipes to precision steel pipes and is aimed at various industries such as: oil and gas, power generation, solar, viticulture, office furniture, radiators, shopfitting, laser cutting.
