Klöckner & Co becomes the first supplier of CO2-reduced stainless steel to the technology group GEA. By using “green” stainless steel, among other things, GEA is pursuing the implementation of its 2040 climate plan with the goal of net zero. The cooperation with Klöckner & Co is to be expanded over the coming years.
The coil is delivered to the GEA production site in Bönen (NRW) via the German subsidiary of Klöckner & Co, Becker Stainless. There, the material is being used as part of a pilot project, among other things, in the more sustainable production of milking technology.
“Our suppliers play an important role in achieving our climate goals. Sustainable procurement is essential. We therefore work closely with our partners so that we can jointly develop and offer resource-saving solutions. We are therefore pleased about the successful implementation of this project with Klöckner & Co.,” explains Johannes Giloth, board member and COO of GEA.
Nexigen® from Klöckner
The coil from the Klöckner brand Nexigen® for CO2-reduced products and services has a carbon footprint that is around 90% lower than conventional stainless steel. This means that it falls into the “Pro” category in the Nexigen® product categorization for CO2-reduced stainless steel developed specifically by Klöckner & Co. This means: Per ton of stainless steel, emissions from raw material extraction through production to delivery are less than 700 kg CO2 (taking Scope 1 to Scope 3 into account).
With the delivery, GEA also receives a Product Carbon Footprint Declaration about the emissions that occurred from raw material extraction through production and processing to transport to the factory gate (Cradle to Customer Entry Gate).
“With our umbrella brand Nexigen®, we pursue one goal above all: to help our customers make their supply chains greener. That's why we're all the more pleased that GEA has chosen Klöckner & Co as our long-standing partner for the first-time supply of CO2-reduced stainless steel," says Guido Kerkhoff, Chairman of the Board of Klöckner & Co.
