Hamburg-based adhesive tape manufacturer Tesa is taking a significant step toward carbon neutrality. The company is preparing to connect its plant in Hamburg-Harburg to the local hydrogen industrial network (HH-WIN). Starting in 2027, the transition is expected to save 6,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.
For the connection, Hamburger Energienetze GmbH is developing a special gas pressure control and measurement system with 25 MW connection capacity. Planning for the required station building is already underway, along with soil investigations and pipeline route planning for the connection line.
Part of the Nationwide Hydrogen Core Network
The HH-WIN project, which began in August 2023 after receiving IPCEI funding, is integrated into the German hydrogen core network. By 2032, the Hamburg network is planned to expand to 60 kilometers. Integration into the national core network ensures favorable network charges during the development phase.
"We are among the first companies in Hamburg to take this bold step," emphasizes Tesa CEO Norman Goldberg. The company aims to achieve carbon neutrality in direct and energy-related emissions by 2030.
