The GMH Group presents its CO2-reduced Green Power Steel and Green Power Premium Steel.
The GMH Group has been a pioneer in sustainable steel production in Germany for three decades. It offers reduced-emission steel, which causes around 59% less CO2 emissions compared to conventional production, taking into account the measurement categories Scope 1 to 3. GMH melts almost 100% metal scrap in electric furnaces to produce steel.
Green Power Steel with emissions reduction
Green Power Premium Steel is made from 100% renewable electricity and 100% biogenic coal, which replaces fossil coal. Biogenic coal, also known as biochar, is produced by pyrolytic carbonization of plant raw materials. Green Power Premium Steel's carbon footprint is 78% lower than conventionally produced steel.
Validated PCF calculation
Both Green Power Premium Steel and Green Power Steel come with a certificate of origin issued by the energy supplier. The calculation of the GMH Group's Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) is carried out using a validated method from TÜV SÜD.
The calculation method complies with ISO 14067 and 14044 standards and is in line with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. This means that the CO2 footprint of the steel variants manufactured by Georgsmarienhütte GmbH can be displayed transparently and precisely in all production steps in accordance with the system limits of “Cradle to Gate”.
This means that the GMH Group can provide PCF calculations for more than 1000 steel variants.
“With our high-quality products “Green Power Premium” and “Green Power Steel”, we can support the decarbonization of our customers’ products. We are pleased that we can present our solutions to a growing number of customers at Wire & Tube 2024.” explains Dr. Alexander Becker, Chief Executive Officer of the GMH Group.
The GMH Group has set itself the goal of being completely climate neutral by 2039.
