Brandenburg-based energy developer Enertrag acquires 6.5 hectares of industrial land in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania for large-scale electrolysis facility. The IPCEI-funded project launches in 2027 with 60 MW capacity, scaling to 180 MW.
Land Acquisition Finalizes Site Selection
Enertrag signed the notarized purchase agreement for land in the Berlin-Szczecin Industrial Park on June 24. The company plans to build one of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania's first large-scale hydrogen production facilities on the acquired site. The plant will connect directly to Germany's hydrogen core network.
Phased Capacity Expansion Strategy
Phase one delivers 60 MW electrolysis capacity, enabling annual production of 6,000 tons of green hydrogen. Phase two expands total capacity to 180 MW. The project forms part of the European IPCEI program "Hy2Infra".
Implementation Timeline Confirmed
Enertrag will commission engineering for technical development in 2025. Environmental protection measures, including reptile protection fencing, begin in August. Permit applications will be submitted in the first half of 2026, construction starts in 2027, with commissioning planned by 2029.
Key Component of East German Electrolysis Corridor
The Pasewalk facility is part of Enertrag's "East German Electrolysis Corridor" with 185 MW total capacity across two sites in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and Brandenburg. Combined, the plants will feed up to 17,000 tons of hydrogen annually into the hydrogen network, representing approximately 12 percent market share in Germany.
