Through a partnership with Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners, Uniper aims to import green hydrogen from Denmark. Annually, up to 140,000 tons of hydrogen from the HØST PtX project in West Esbjerg, Denmark, are expected to reach Germany. A new pipeline will enable cross-border transport.
The partnership between CIP and Uniper is intended to enhance cooperation on the HØST PtX Esbjerg project along the Danish west coast. The focus of this collaboration is primarily on the transportation and marketing of green hydrogen in Germany, as reported by the gas trader based in Düsseldorf last Thursday (May 2).
Construction of the Hydrogen Pipeline Planned
For the planned transport of up to 140,000 tons of hydrogen per year, the German-Danish partners aim to build a new hydrogen pipeline. This is expected to be completed by no later than 2028. Currently, the construction is set to be carried out by the Danish transmission system operator Energinet, in collaboration with the Dutch Gasunie. After crossing into Germany, the new pipeline will be connected to the German hydrogen backbone network.
The planned hydrogen pipeline is expected to facilitate access to several, as yet unspecified, consumer sites in Germany. Moreover, the involved companies anticipate that the pipeline will allow them to market green hydrogen at competitive prices in the German market.
Uniper intends to incorporate the green hydrogen from HØST into its green gas portfolio, thus meeting the hydrogen needs of the industry.
