Calderys has announced the availability of its HWI range of refractory products for copper producers and foundries in the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East, and Africa). These products, which have undergone extensive testing and development at Calderys' Haznedar Durer manufacturing plant in Türkiye and the Advanced Technology Research Center (ATRC) in the United States, are now accessible to customers in the region.
”The products newly-available in the EMEA region comprise refractories engineered to meet the specific lining demands of primary smelting, anode, and secondary copper furnaces, as well as copper converters.” said Salih Erez, CEO of Haznedar Durer, a subsidiary of Calderys. "They come in addition to the bauxite and andalusite based castables that we already produce. We now have an extended and stronger offering for EMEA copper producers.”
Enhanced resistance to copper oxide and acidic glassy slag
The newly available products include various brick and castable formulations designed to withstand high temperatures and resist the corrosive effects of slag. These materials are intended to improve the durability of production units, particularly in high-wear areas within primary and secondary copper processes and foundries.
One of the key products introduced is AUREX® 30 SR EU, an alumina-chrome brick containing 30% chromium oxide (Cr2O3). This brick is engineered to form a corrosion-resistant layer in situ, providing enhanced resistance to copper oxide, especially during intensive refining processes. It also exhibits strong resistance to acidic glassy slag commonly found in secondary copper refining and is designed to handle the thermal shock associated with batch processing.
