ArcelorMittal Eisenhüttenstadt has successfully produced its first coil following a comprehensive modernisation of its hot rolling mill. Primetals Technologies, a leading company in the field of metal industry technologies, was responsible for the upgrade with the latest automation platform. The installation was carried out in stages during scheduled maintenance intervals, allowing the steel mill to continue operations without additional interruptions.
The teams from ArcelorMittal and Primetals Technologies worked very well together to install the upgrade. According to Primetals, the commissioning exceeded ArcelorMittal's expectations in terms of speed and efficiency.
The modernisation included the finishing line and coiler area as well as the roughing line. The implementation resulted in improved availability and operability of the equipment, enabling operators to achieve higher productivity. The new automation equipment and software were mainly installed in the control cabinets of the existing systems. This supported a smooth commissioning and brought the plant back to normal production levels in a short time.
The plant in Eisenhüttenstadt, which has been in existence since 1950, is an integrated steelworks that covers the entire value chain from pig iron production to hot and cold rolling. It produces flat steel, which is mainly used in the automotive, household appliance and enamelling industries.
Primetals Technologies, a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Group company, has established itself as a technological pioneer and global provider in the fields of engineering, plant construction and lifecycle services for the metals industry. With around 7,000 employees worldwide, the company provides comprehensive solutions that cover the entire production process from raw material extraction to the finished product in the iron and steel and non-ferrous metals sectors.
