GAO Fiber Optics has announced the release of an easy-to-use optical multi-meter intended to measure optical loss and to check the performance of optical parts. The optical meter is specifically designed for single mode fiber measurement. It can act as an optical power meter and a stable light source or be used as a loss measurement

This optical multi-meter, model 2498A, offers CW mode light signals with a measurement resolution of 0.1dBm to 1dB in W display mode or 0.01 to 0.1dB in REL display mode.The handheld optical multi-meter covers 0.85µm,1.30µm, 1.31µm and 1.55µm wavelengths for optical loss measurement within a measurement range of 3dBm to -70dBm or 20dBm to -50dBm. It provides a wavelength calibration function at four wavelengths including 850nm, 1300nm, 1310nm and 1550nm. The measurement range can be specified and set to be on and off. Moreover, the deviation of optical power sensor is compensated for automatically. The meter has a high definition backlit LCD screen and an AC-DC adaptor, a rechargeable Ni-Cd battery and dry cells as power sources for selection.
