Maschinenfabrik Niehoff with an experience of more than 60 years develops and builds nearly all machinery which is needed for the production of non-ferrous metals wires as well as automotive, data and special cables. Description of the wire 2014 exhibits


Multiwire drawing line MMH 104 + RMA 201 for wires made from aluminum and aluminum alloys
The MMH 104 + RMA 201 type multiwire drawing line is designed for the simultaneous drawing of eight or 16 aluminum or aluminum alloy wires to a minimum final diameter of 0.15 to 0.60 mm with inline annealing and can work with a maximum speed of 36 m/s.
The MMH 104 drawing machine can be operated with drawing oil or with drawing emulsion. The RMA 201 continuous resistance annealer is specially designed for aluminum and aluminum alloy round wires and works by the two-zone annealing principle with short annealing sections, which promotes the economical and ecological consumption of energy. The wire is annealed under protective atmosphere (Nitrogen) to prevent the wire from oxidation. Each contact pulley is driven by its own AC motor for optimized speed adjustment to different wire speeds. The wires leave the annealer with a residual lubrication layer and can be spooled directly onto plastic spools. Because of their lubrication the wires can be payed-off at high speeds without risk of damages and breaks. The wires have highly homogeneous characteristics which surpass the strictest specifications and processing requirements. They are ideally suited for downstream processes such as high-quality stranding or braiding.


Rotary braiding machine BMI 124
The new 24-carrier lever arm rotary braiding machine BMI 124 is characterized by several engineering details that reduce cable deformation and optimize braiding quality. The machine is designed for cables up to 40 mm diameter. Like the four other models of the BMV series designed for 12, 16 or 24 spools in vertical operation, the BMI 124 features an infinitely variable electronic control of line speed and braiding pitch as well as an automatic central lubrication system. Several control systems, some optionally available, ensure that BMV braiders can work for a long time unattended and without operator intervention. The BMV type machines are designed to process round or flat wire of bare or coated copper, aluminum and stainless steel with a single-wire diameter ranging from 0.05 to 0.3 mm (40-28 AWG) as well as artificial yarn and fibers.


Inductive annealer RI 120
The continuous inductive annealer type RI 120 is like the other models of the RI series designed for the production of wires with low electric and thermal conductivity. These are e.g. brass, bronze, German silver, nickel and nickel alloys. They can also be used for heating conductors, resistance and compound wires. The annealers work on the principle of an excitation voltage transformer. This principle and the fast cooling of the wire enable a fine-grained structure, giving the wire excellent processing and forming properties. RI type annealers can be integrated in rolling lines, drawing lines and combined lines for round, flat and profiled wires.


Cable stranding line ARD 630 D + ALB 600 + D 801
The D 801 type double twist bunching machine is designed for the production of insulated wires with a cable diameter of 7.5 mm. The machine on display is combined with an ARD 630 D type double twist backtwist pay-off and an ALB 600 type longitudinal tape pay-off. The ARD 630 D is capable of generating back twist ratios from 0% – 100%, or even higher if required. Optionally the double twist back twist pay-offs can be used to enable a triple twist stranding process which is characterized by an increased stranding speed and production capacity as well as a further reduction of production costs. The dancer-controlled ALB 600 pay-off with tape forming device is designed for stranding lines and extrusion lines. All standard tapes used in the cable industry (like aluminium laminated tape and polyester tape) can be applied on the strand.


Double twist bunching line D 632 + ARP 630
The Niehoff D 632 type double twist bunching machine is the successor of the well-known and established D 631 model. The D 632 is characterized by an energy-class IE3 energy-saving rotor drive and an adjustable fan drive in the sound proof cabin. The operation panel has a new coloured NMI (NIEHOFF Machine Interface) display with simplified navigation structure. By means of further engineering measures NIEHOFF also succeded to extend the maintenance intervals.
The D 632 is designed to produce strands with 0.09 to 6.00 mm² cross section and a steplessly variable lay length of 6 to 100 mm. The maximum number of twists is 6,500 twists/min, the maximum linear speed 300 m/min.
The new ARP type pay-off completes the portfolio for the production of strands. By clamping the spool with the help of pintles spool loading becomes fast and easy. Spools with various bore diameters can be used, and as an option particular spool lifting tables are available too.


CRRS (Cable Repair and Recovery System) from HFSAB
HFSAB has developed the next generation CRRS using the latest innovative solution to remove thicker layers of material than before. The new CRRS on display can remove up to 40% more XLPE insulation (by volume) over the previous design. Triple layer XLPE insulation for cables with a voltage up to 220 kV and up to 25 mm radial thickness can be accommodated. The CRRS can also be used for the removal of outer sheathing materials such as HDPE with or without a bonded thin aluminium metallic sheath, PE, PVC or Lead, the maximum outside diameter of the cable is 180 mm with a maximum thickness of material of up to 6 mm. The minimum cable diameter in the standard form is 30 mm, however smaller diameters as low as 10 mm can be accommodated with an optional small Slitting Head.
As with the previous generation the CRRS is used to remove individual layers such as, the outer jacket, Lead Sheath or triple layer XLPE insulation, without causing any damage to the subsequent layer below. As a result enabling the outer jacket, Lead Sheath or triple layer XLPE to be re-applied and the cable repaired. Even if the cable is just going to be scrapped, the metal price differences for insulated or un-insulated cables are very high and the CRRS would have a very short pay-back period, if the metals are scrapped in their “bright” form.
