Von Roll enameled copper wires can typically be offered in the following range of dimensions:

Round enamelled diameters from 0.335 to 5.00 mm

Flat enamelled cross-sections from 2 to 100 mm2.

Litz wires, flat and round wires

Special high-frequency Litz wires are made of twisted enameled strands and are used to reduce eddy losses, the so-called skin effect.

Litz wires consist of bunched strands. They are used because of their high flexibility and to reduce eddy losses, the so-called skin effect. For high-frequency Litz wires, the strands are enamelled and used to counteract the increase in conductor resistance (impedance) at higher frequencies.

Von Roll produces special Litz wires according to customer designs and specifications. They can be round or rectangular, with or without enamel, and with different types of additional insulation, such as braiding or taping.

Covered Wires & Round Wires

Covered wires come in two categories:

Taped wires, round and flat:
Samicafilm® taped conductors that provide high resistance to corona, mainly used for high-voltage motors and windmill generators
SamicaShield® against partial discharges in inverter-driven motors
SamicaFirewall® for peak temperature up to 1000°C and operating temperature of 500°C, mainly used for safety motors and tunnel ventilators
Polyimide taped wires with a temperature index of 240 for traction motors
Cablosam® insulated conductors and Litz wires for fireproof cables
Glass lapped wires, round and flat:
Silix®, an impregnated glass lapped wire with a temperature index of 155-200 on a bare or enamelled wire, mainly used for Roebel bars as well as rotor and stator windings of electrical motors
Daglas® insulated wires with a temperature index of 155-180 on a bare or enamelled wire, mainly used for Roebel bars as well as rotor and stator windings of electrical motors
VS 220 VF and VF 240 VF, designed for traction motors with a high-temperature index of 220 and 240, and mainly used for rotor and stator windings of traction motors

Adhesive Tapes

Over 70 kinds of adhesive tapes for a wide variety of electrical applications.

Isotape® and Intertape® tape brands offer a wide range of backings and adhesive systems to meet the current application requirements of the electrical industry. This electrical insulation product line is manufactured under the strictest standards, with performance and reliability in mind. Most of the adhesive tapes carry UL recognition (UL E20780 for Intertape® products and UL E315208 and E315249 for Von Roll).

Resins & Varnishes

Von Roll makes a wide variety of varnishes and resins for both low- and high-voltage applications based on alkyds, acrylics, urethanes, polyesters, polyesterimides, epoxies, and silicones. Most are specialized products that are optimized for a variety of processing techniques, such as Trickle, Roller through or Vacuum Pressure Impregnation (VPI).

Fires can occur anywhere, but their effects can be particularly hazardous wherever large numbers of people are gathered together, where safety-related equipment is in use or in environments where there is a particularly high fire risk. In such fire conditions, vital information and functions need to be maintained, and power and signal cables have to be adequately protected for a predefined period of time. Fire-resistant cables are used in a variety of installations such as:

» Transport: e.g. ships, railways, subways, aircrafts

Mica Products

The term "mica" is used for a group of minerals that show perfect cleavage. Mineralogically speaking, they are sheets of silicate. The name comes from the Latin word micare, meaning to shine, in reference to the brilliant appearance of this material.

Von Roll's commitment to mica starts with mining, followed by the very specialized field of producing paper from a mineral and finishing with the production of special mica tapes as well as mica ancillary parts.

Von Roll uses two types of mica, phlogopite and muscovite, for a variety of applications and depending on the needed thermal and electrical characteristic, mainly in:

Electrical and thermal insulation of electrical machines
Thermal insulation of equipment that is subject to extremely high temperatures, such as induction ovens
Insulation of cable for fire resistance
