The Institute of Spring Technology

The Institute of Spring Technology (IST) is the UK based International Independent Centre of Excellence for Spring Technology. We offer all companies involved in the spring industry supply chain a wide range of specialist technical services, all aspects of research and development, training, problem solving and testing from our UKAS / NQA accredited technical centre, with ISO 17025 & ISO 9001 approvals.

Direct access to IST’s specialist technical staff; we offer help with materials, manufacturing processes, heat treatment, specifications and standards.

• Spring Calculator Software
Our Spring Calculator Professional covers 8 spring types from compression to spiral and more; outputs include spring drawing, fatigue life predictions and relaxation estimates. Our web-based Spring Calculator offers users the ability to access their spring designs whilst on the move.

• Training Courses
Run by IST’s team of Engineers and Metallurgists, these cover different topics from Manufacturing Technology to Material Selection and Failure and Prevention.

• Shot Peening and Consumables
Our subcontract service (for wire diameters >0.3mm) enhances the fatigue performance of springs using glass beads and steel shot. We can supply consumables to SAE J442; A, C & N Almen strips, Almen blocks & gauges.

• Testing Machines
Our range covers most spring measurement needs and includes Load Testers, Torque Testers, Non Axial Force Machine, Fatigue Machines and Fracmat Wire Coilability Test Machines.

• Failure Analysis
Our fast and accurate service covers Cause Identification, Stress Analysis, Metallographic Analysis, EDX Analysis and Advice on Prevention. Clear Decisive Reports are provided.
